Velvet Comedy presents Liliana Velásquez Solo Show!
Liliana Velasquez has crossed the boarder between worlds all her life. Raised in both entitled North and volatile South America moving back and forth from Colombia to the USA, she is a latina incognito; just white enough. She absorbs and creates diverse cultures through and against the immigrant struggle of her parents. The American Dream her parents taught her was “you can be anything”. Their catholic faith taught her otherwise. And as a young lady you were only meant to silently stand by. This tug of war fueled her and being a women never stopped her from doing it her way. Liliana shares her loves, her aches and her transformation into an independent thinking woman. She is proud to be queer and not perfect. She transforms from kept child bride to hairdresser to dominatrix, from ticket tout to art muse. The play explores her turbulent NYC years, her struggles, successes and failures, revealing emotional trauma, exuberant and hedonistic experiences – putting a new slant on the the speed hump phenomena when using (vaginal balls…?)
Liliana Velasquez has crossed borders all her life. Raised in Miami Medellin and New Jersey there is no role she cannot play and her comedy reflects this extravagant mix in her Latina-tude, Catholic guilt and American dreaming. As an adult, Liliana recklessly explored NYC, slipping in and out of different art forms, costumes and jobs. She has so many outrageous stories to tell, it would horrify her proud parents, Only now do they admire her comedic outlook on somany mistakes. Always hungry for new challenges, Liliana soon found another platforms for the performance that is her life: Berlin Neukölln. She is proud to be queer and not perfect, and enjoys waking up in the afternoons.
